My mother died a year ago today.<\/p>\n
I feel I need do more than light a candle.<\/div>\n
I should sit on a rock and meditate,<\/div>\n
but somehow feel that’s more than I can handle.<\/div>\n
It’s been suggested I should plant a tree<\/div>\n
but my yard is already over crowded.<\/div>\n
I could walk through the streets calling her name,<\/div>\n
all dressed in black or maybe even shrouded.<\/div>\n
Some say that I should play her favorite song,<\/div>\n
the one which almost mentioned her by name.<\/div>\n
I think I could not handle that for long,<\/div>\n
no matter who the voice is singing “Mame.”<\/div>\n
The proper thing, of course, would be to go<\/div>\n
into a church and sit down in a pew,<\/div>\n
reciting prayers to her departed soul,<\/div>\n
but that’s something an atheist can’t do.<\/div>\n
And so my tribute will be quite low key.<\/div>\n
No chants or songs directed up above.<\/div>\n
I’ll just remember what she meant to me.<\/div>\n
