The small window had a curtain<\/div>\n
made of checkered blue pajamas.<\/div>\n
Outside, in the verdant hills,<\/div>\n
there lingered packs of llamas.<\/div>\n
It might be South America,<\/div>\n
it might be Mexico.<\/div>\n
Judging by our only view,<\/div>\n
perhaps we’d never know.<\/div>\n
Day and night, from overhead,<\/div>\n
we’d hear the airplanes roar.<\/div>\n
We’d certainly run out to see them<\/div>\n
if we had a door.<\/div>\n
Inside were boxes of stored food<\/div>\n
and other life provisions.<\/div>\n
We kept time upon the wall<\/div>\n
by making small incisions.<\/div>\n
For days on end we stared out<\/div>\n
at the land beyond the bars.<\/div>\n
Never saw a sign of people,<\/div>\n
buildings, roads or cars.<\/div>\n
We had two cots, two chairs,<\/div>\n
and one small bucket for our loo.<\/div>\n
Our life came down to staring at<\/div>\n
