I stayed inside, so what the heck?<\/div>\n
I haven’t seen my friends in weeks.<\/div>\n
Wind whistles through my hollow cheeks.<\/div>\n
The raindrops are a welcome patter.<\/div>\n
Nothing else now seems to matter.<\/div>\n
Watching trees blow, wet and slick,<\/div>\n
can make one forget the sick.<\/div>\n
Images of death and dying<\/div>\n
ought to keep one up nights, crying.<\/div>\n
Never thought I’d see a plague.<\/div>\n
Always thought Camus was vague.<\/div>\n
Hoarding cans of food to eat.<\/div>\n
Body bags\u00a0are in the street.<\/div>\n
There’s a navy ship at dock,<\/div>\n
nurses working ’round the clock.<\/div>\n
Bless the workers. They’re essential.<\/div>\n
Fortitude is providential.<\/div>\n
In their manmade cave inside,<\/div>\n
all know someone who has died.<\/div>\n
Every day the list expands,<\/div>\n
writers, actors, men in bands.<\/div>\n
As the world around us dithers,<\/div>\n
just today we lost Bill Withers.<\/div>\n
Life’s become a tragedy.<\/div>\n
Tonight I’ll sing “Lean On Me.”<\/div>\n
