I heard of a herd
\nthat swallowed a word
\nthat led them downhill
\ninto a mass kill.
\nTheir lives were o.k.,
\nbut not so today.
\nWent down in defeat.
\nAnd now they’re just meat.
\nDead dreams on American buns.
\nBodies piling up by the tons.
\nIt’s everything the master always craved,
\nendless tombstones with his name engraved.
\nI heard of a herd
\nwho thought words absurd.
\nWho summoned the will
\nto march back uphill,
\ntheir lives to retrieve.
\nThe master must leave.
\nThe land will revive.
\nAnd love can survive.
\nNew notes in our country’s songs,
\npromising to right our wrongs.
\nA healing world, a brighter sky.
